From Caregiving to
Needing Care
Making the Transition Can Be Tough—but Rewarding
Fighting cancer takes strength. So does letting someone help.
Some women may be used to being the ones in their families who make sure everyone
is cared for. It can come as a surprise when they find themselves needing to ask
for help, during and after treatment.
But remember that others may be strong, too. They may even appreciate the chance
to pay you back for all the encouragement you've given them over the years. Grown
children, particularly, may surprise you as you face an uncertain situation. Let
them help you, and don't be afraid to ask for specific assistance.
Moreover, as you think about treatment options and the road ahead, you may want
to be able to enjoy time with your family. If a friend or loved one can help with
day-to-day tasks—let them. Being a survivor means knowing when to be tough—and when
to share.
